Jayden Daniels Shines Under the Primetime Spotlight

Every rookie in the NFL experiences a defining moment, and for Commander’s quarterback Jayden Daniels, that moment came in Washington’s unexpected 38-33 win over the Cincinnati Bengals.

Daniels, the second overall pick in this year’s draft, delivered an exceptional performance, completing 21 of 23 passes for 254 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another. His 91.3% completion rate set an NFL record for a rookie, and he became the first player since 1950 to throw for over 250 yards, score multiple passing touchdowns, rush for a touchdown, and maintain a completion rate over 90%.

The 23-year-old's blend of precision passing and mobility proved unstoppable for the Bengals’ defense, making it a night to remember for Washington fans. His second touchdown pass with just over two minutes left – a 27-yard strike to Terry McLaurin – effectively sealed the game.

Speaking on his stellar debut, Daniels said, “I’m a competitor. I want to compete at the highest level. To be a part of one of the 32 teams and go out there every week is a blessing.”

Commanders' head coach, Dan Quinn, praised his young quarterback’s poise and decision-making. "His ability to read the game, knowing when to pass, when to run – it’s something we've seen in practice, and it was great to see him perform like this tonight," said Quinn.

While the Commanders improved to 2-1, the Bengals’ struggles continued. Cincinnati, now winless after three weeks, came into the season with Super Bowl aspirations, but their 0-3 start, including two surprise losses at home, has left fans disappointed. Despite a strong performance from Joe Burrow and the Bengals' offence, their defense couldn’t contain Daniels and the Commanders.

The high-scoring affair, notably, was the first NFL game since 1940 to feature no turnovers or punts.

Bills Cruise to Victory as Damar Hamlin Celebrates a Milestone

In the other game of the night, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen led his team to an emphatic 47-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars. Allen’s first-half performance was particularly dazzling, as he completed 22 of 28 passes for 247 yards and four touchdowns, guiding the Bills to a commanding 34-3 lead by halftime.

Although the second half was less eventful, with the result effectively decided, one special moment stood out. Bills safety Damar Hamlin, in his first Monday night game since suffering a cardiac arrest last year, recorded his first career interception. Hamlin's emotional return to the field after such a life-threatening incident added even more significance to the moment.

Reflecting on his teammates’ reaction to his interception, Hamlin told ESPN, “They were even happier than I was. It just shows the bond we have here in Buffalo.”

As for Jacksonville, their dismal start to the season continues, with no wins in their first three games. Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence struggled against Buffalo's defence, throwing for just 178 yards, one touchdown, and one interception before being benched late in the game to avoid injury.

Following the loss, Jags head coach Doug Pederson didn’t mince words: “We’re not a very good football team right now, and we need to fix things quickly.”

As the season progresses, both the Commanders and the Bills will look to build on their momentum, while the Bengals and Jaguars must regroup to turn their seasons around.
